A very unique rose fragrance with incense. It lasts quite a long time on my skin and finishes a bit on the heavy side. Lovely!
Paestum - Ancient city of temples and roses.. Virgil in 29 B.C referred to its beauty, and its roses that “bloom and
fade and bloom again.” Throughout the city, incense and resins made from those roses flowers burned in its temples and
scented the air of the city.
Paestum Rose is a wonderful rose-incense composition by Bertrand Duchaufour, inspired by the legend of Paestum and its famous twice-blooming roses and ancient temples. Not surprisingly for a Duchaufour rose blend there is a wonderful compexity and layering with the rose notes well complimented by exotic woods, myrrh and incense as the scent develops.
It opens with a mix of pepper and coriander that shifts into the main note of rose. No dainty tea-rose here - this is a
full dark Turkish rose, deep, not too sweet, with plenty of depth. The pepper notes fade, and the scent takes on an
exotic rose and incense combination. The drydown continues the theme, and leaves one with the rose and incense tempered
by myrrh and exotic woods that is truly olfactory magic.
Sillage is quite good, even though the scent seems to wear close to the skin - it will get noticed (and in my experience, from the sample, compliments). Longevity is very good, being between 6 and 8 hours on my skin.
In essence, this is another classic scent from Duchaufour. My go-to rose scent,Hammam Bouquet, just might have some serious competition.
Virgil would have understood.
