Acne is common in both adolescence and adulthood and may be caused by many factors including hormonal changes, stress, diet, and further hormonal changes as we age; even the environment may cause breakouts. While it is difficult to pinpoint the exact causes, it is important to use the appropriate treatment products to treat acne and there are many options available.
Acne products include cleansers, toners or astringents, creams and lotions. Toners are often alcohol based and tend to dry the skin and are better for people with oily skin. Each of our products will have active ingredients in different concentrations. We suggest to start with the lower strengths and work your way up to more concentrated products. It is not uncommon to experience mild skin irritation, redness, and/or burning when you first try these products but this is normal as your skin adjusts to the active ingredients. These side effects usually go away after continued use and we suggest using the products only once a day or even every second day until your skin adjusts. If there is a continued reaction, please give us a call or see a doctor.
If your acne is more severe you should consider seeing a dermatologist or a doctor who specializes in acne.
If you have adult acne it does not mean that you cannot treat fine lines and wrinkles as well. We do have products specific to deal with aging skin and acne.
It is always important to use a sunscreen and especially with some of the acne treatments as they will make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Even in winter it is important to apply an appropriate sunscreen of 30 SPF or more as a final step in your skin care regimen.
